President’s Report: See attached
Guest – James Graves reported on high school bowling. Leon High School has a bowling club with about 43 members. The club meets about once a month to bowl at Crenshaw from 5-7 on a Friday. Rickards has about 53 members in their bowling club.
James has been working over a year to fulfill a longtime goal he has had to get high school bowling as a sport in Leon County. With his hard efforts he has succeeded in starting with two schools – Rickards and Leon. FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) requires each school to have one high school varsity team that consists of 5-8 members. They are in District 3 which has both boys and girls teams. There are 11 other schools classed in this division. The teams are going to Ormond Beach today, for a district competition for tomorrow. Then the State Tournament will be held Nov. 6-7 at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando with the top 2 teams and top 3 individuals for both boys and girls.
Any help in encouraging the schools to get involved would be appreciated. A teacher would have to become a sponsor for a bowling club and or team. This doesn’t mean monetarily sponsor, it means for them to volunteer their time to be involved with the club.
A City Tournament will be held Dec. 1, 10:00 am at Seminole Bowl, for all high schools in the area. This will be boys and girls teams consisting of 5 bowlers, no mixed teams. Mike Fine at Crenshaw will offer clinics to teams interested in improving and learning skills if they are not already experienced bowlers. This will allow the schools who do not have formed teams to have an incentive to want to be involved in high school bowling and to have a better chance to do well in competition.
Clayton Bailey mentioned Southern Bowling Congress offers scholarships which may be an incentive to get more high schools interested in bowling.
James hopes that more of the high school bowlers would also want to join the Saturday Youth Leagues, at present there are only two members on both high school and Saturday youth league.
VP Report
Dan passed out letter regarding payout delays on from Florida State Tournament and explanation.

Committee Work Discussion
- Audit Committee – There will need to be an audit preformed, sometime in January. Usually every six months.
- Shirts and Logo – All shirts given out except John Govans. There are extras that the Association Manager has for any new directors.
- Youth Committee
Darlene Hawkins is working with Chick-fil-A for youth bowler of the month awards.
Darlene has gone through Level One certification. She has been working close with the Bantum Preps.
Pepsi qualifying will be November 3 and then another qualifying in January.
The youth bowlers we do have are hanging in there and doing well. We just need to get the company - more youth bowlers to join.
Old Business
- Website committee would like to meet after meeting to finalize proposed website design.
-
- Background Checks for Youth Coaches and Advisors will be August 1, 2008.
New Business
- Next meeting time to get more members involved.
-
- Do we want to hold Holiday Classic again? Dan would like to hold. Maurice Ouzts suggests we should. We had about 70 singles last year, it was a straight singles handicap with scratch option. There 3 shifts. Last year brackets were run manually, but we do have a program now. It is suggested to hold at Capital Lanes this year. December 8th and 9th. Shifts would be 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm both days. Rules will be pretty much same as last year. Ten-pin rule will be in effect. Still a question about rates center would charge.
Peggy Price called Capital Lanes. It is available
Bruce will send out e-mail to see if anyone would like to be the tournament manager.
Clayton Bailey mentioned State Seniors Tournament will be in Merritt Island in January 2008. It is hosted by Suncoast.
The 74th Florida State Tournament will be hosted by Palm Beach County. It will be in Boynton Beach and Jupiter May 3rd- June 29th 2008, deadline Feb. 29th. Hernando County won the hosting for 2009 and that will be in Lakeland.
Susan G. Komen tournament will be February 23rd & 24th
Marvin Overby tournament will be February 29th, March 1st & 2nd.
City Tournament will be March 29th & 30th and April 5th & 6th
Clayton Bailey asked for approval to pay for SE meeting in Tennessee this year. He is no longer President so doesn’t get a free room. It was approved to reimburse him one night.
Question was addressed as to Dan Gatlin being our delegate for NW. He is a representative at State Level, but Bruce Meyers was elected as alternate at the May 19th annual meeting.
End of year tournament will be decided at a later date.
Bowler’s Roundtable
Darlene Hawkins discussed revisions to NW Tournament applications and posters that we are hosting. The Tallahassee Sports Council will reimburse any promotions for tourism through a $1,000.00 grant approval. So, we will submit expenses and should get reimbursed up to $1,000.00.
