Bruce Meyers and I met with Jerry Holmes of Verdigre for the website. Clayton Bailey, Dan Gatlin, Bruce Meyers, Darlene Hawkins and I went the NW annual meeting. Dan Gatlin, Bruce Meyers and I met to work on policy and procedures. I am working on awards that have been received. We are getting in emails from Florida State Women’s Bowling Association, newsletters, announcements, etc. I usually forward those to Myrrel Stokes and Peggy Price. I would like them or someone to take them and forward onto either women bowlers or only those who paid extra $1.00 to be a member of Florida State Women’s Bowling Association, through an email data base that I will create. It was suggested to email out an introductory letter to all women bowlers letting them know that there is a link on our website to link them to the Flawba website with the newsletters available on their site.
Director’s Reports
Ed Palagyi - no-taps being held in Bainbridge 1:00 sign-in and start bowling at 2:00.
Mary Adkison – the youth Capital Lanes League has sent in application for State Tournament, hopefully getting choice of June 13and 14.
Committee Work Discussion
Audit Committee – Audit was done. Bruce Meyers and Traci Cirioni met afterward and discussed changing financial reports to include cost categories for reporting income to expenses.
Awards Committee – Harry Frisbee found a vendor for getting new 200 and 600 local emblems ordered with new Tallahassee USBC Association information. He suggests we order 1000 “200 patches” and 500 “600 patches.” Morris Ouzts discussed cost of 700 plaques costs increasing. The cost at Awards 4 U is now up to $53.00. He has ordered plaques at Allen’s Trophies in Quincy for a cost of about $38.00. Traci Cirioni needs to get a current 700 plaque re-done to include games bowled, once that is picked up she will take it to Allen’s to get a price quote. Morris Ouzts also suggests we award a local plaque to women for bowling a 650 series. A motion was made to award a local plaque to women for bowling a 650 series, after discussion it was seconded and approved by majority vote.
By Laws and Policy Procedure Committee – Met and worked on setting up policies. We will have available prior to annual meeting.
Youth Committee – already reported from Mary Adkison.
Website Committee – Bruce Meyers and Traci Cirioni met with Jerry Holmes on website. The vertical menu is now in place. There is a calendar accessible for scheduling events. Bruce Meyers has gone in and done some updating. We have checked in with BPAA (Bowling Proprietors Association) regarding website management/design. We have it clear with Verdigre that we want to be treated as a business and not have any special discounts
Hall of Fame Committee – Ed Palagyi and committee met before meeting and are going to proceed further.
Lane Inspection Committee- All are completed except for new Lane 7, which isn’t built yet. We need to get some new volunteers, hopefully younger ones. Clayton Bailey, Darlene Hawkins, Peggy Price and Traci Cirioni and Bruce Meyers (coordinator) have been helping, but it would be nice to get others who can move around on lanes better. Question about liability if we got some of our youth to help. Bruce Meyers will check with USBC.
Tournament Committee –Susan G. Komen Breast Tournament did well. We had 39 doubles entries. We will be paying out 6 places for the prize fund. Results are posted at Seminole Bowl, Capital Lanes and on the website.
The bowling ball was won by Demitrius Hargrett and the afghan was won by Billy Tramel.
We collected $788.00 from the bowling ball drawing. Myrrel Stokes and Peggy Price did a great job on the "Ways & Means" table collecting $180.11. Myrrel hand made several items that she donated for sale for the cure. Peggy made great "from scratch" cupcakes decorated special with pink gum paste ribbons. Dan Gatlin's wife Teresa made delicious brownies. Myrell also hand crocheted a beautiful afghan with the pink ribbon symbols and special words of encouragement and donated that for a special drawing. That raised $61.00. The bracket entries raised $75.00. All these monies (except the $138.00 cost and shipping of the bowling ball) will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation. A motion was made and approved to also take a basic cost of drilling $25.00, out of proceeds of the drawing. All the expense fees collected from entries will also be donated., a total around $1,225.00 will be sent to Bowl for the Cure.
Dan Gatlin wanted to make sure a special "Thank You" went out to all those who made this year's "Bowl for the Cure" such a success. So if you bought a bowling ball drawing ticket, bought an afghan ticket, spent money at the ways & means table, bowled and/or participated in brackets, he thanks you. He thanks Ruth Sims for doing a great job on promoting with special flyer announcements. He thanks Bruce Meyers and Traci Cirioni for helping with the tournament management. Dan Gatlin sent a letter of thanks to Seminole Bowl-Frank Pepp (Marketing Manager) acknowledging the great support we received from that center.
1571 doubles score was the top score from Darla Bradley and Steve Miller.
Our next tournament will be the City Tournament. It will be held March 21st & 22nd and March 28th & 29th. There will be an Open Division, Women's Division and Youth's Division. There will be Team Events, Singles/Doubles Events. Team Events will be held at Capital Lanes and Singles/Doubles will be held at Seminole Bowl. We are under constrictions through contracts signed with the centers for using certain lanes and assignment of open bowlers of the center.
Once again, the tournament committee needs more involvement helping run these tournaments.
Even though Marvin Overby Sport tournament isn’t a part of our association tournament management, Ed Palagyi reported how well he noticed they did this year. Their participation reaches a great scope of bowlers from Pensacola, Mississippi, Orlando, etc. We need to tap into that kind of out reach for our tournaments that are open outside bowlers.
Bowler of Year tournament will be held at Crenshaw Lanes. One day tournament May 30th. Darlene Hawkins volunteered to be tournament manager.
Old Business
Laptop selection/purchase – Traci Cirioni has checked in again for prices – Best Buy has HP 4GB Memory and 320GB hard drive for $699.00.
The USBC National Convention is coming up April 29 - May 2, in Reno, Nevada. We have already approved $2,000.00 through our budget to send someone. There are issues on agenda move to raise dues for USBC national dues from $10.00 to $15.00. Sports dues have already been raised last year to $15.00 through an executive committee (which means changes don’t have to be voted on at annual convention.) Another item on agenda is to force state and local associations to merge by the year 2011 and to provide the power through executive committee. Dan Gatlin is our delegate. Bruce Meyers would like to have board approval again to send Dan Gatlin this year, a motion was made, seconded and approved.
New Business
Nominating committee needs to be appointed. Bruce Meyers will not be seeking re-election for President position after his term ends this year in May. Mary Adkison volunteered to be on committee others will be contacted to be appointed.
John Govans is not present today. But still continues to help and promote bowling, with special emphasis on youth. He has submitted a letter that he drafted regarding us supporting the Obama children in the White House for continuing bowling in the White House. Discussion towards allowing bowling equipment manufactures to sponsor and we will table further discussion until more input from John Govans.
Bowler’s Roundtable
Darlene Hawkins has the collecting pins in from Promotional Printing. Total invoice of $492.54, cost $3.15 per pin + set up fees. We will sell them for $5.00 each. After discussion, approval for payment of $400.00, Darlene will keep 30 pins and do as she wishes with them, and pay the remaining balance on invoice of $92.54.
