President’s Report: See attached
A Board of Director position needs to be filled for remaining term of James Peppers, who resigned. Bruce Meyers sent out email for interested parties in filling that position. Clayton Bailey recommended Cliff Mundinger, who could not be here today. People identified Ruth Sims may be interested. Bruce would like to appoint Ruth Sims if she would accept. She accepted and was approved by the board. He would also like to have her become publicity chairperson.
Bruce announced the passing of William Bellflower from our bowling community. He is in our Hall of Fame. He was once a very active bowler and league sponsor of the Bellflower Marine League. His contributions to Tallahassee bowling are greatly appreciated.
VP Report Dan Gatlin has nothing to report.
Association Manager’s Report: -
$9,715.04 in checking account. Two CD’s purchased at Sunshine Savings Bank for $4,000.00 each, at an interest rate of 4.3502%.
Sales tax exempt form was sent off for us to become exempt from paying Florida sales tax on purchases or services.
Director’s Reports
Ed Palagyi received his USBC cards.
Clayton Bailey mentioned the NW Tournament and encouraged participation from our bowlers.
John Govans reports that St. Claire Muraine has been laid off from the Tallahasee Democrat. Suggests we get the Susan G Komen tournament on the morning show with Shonda Knight. This is a pre-recorded segment but is shown on the morning show.
He has also trying to get Mr. Whitfield to attend his Rotary Club meeting in March. The Rotary Club has interest in helping fund activities. Main thing that maybe Rotary Club could help out would be transportation.
Seminole Bowl had once had interest in doing a short league for youth. Offering minimal fees, bumper bowling group and maybe to last 5 weeks. There is also been talk from centers to get more options for after school programs. Maybe John Govans and Ruth Sims can pursue some options.
Ruth Sims hopes we could get adult bowlers interested in helping promote and help out with minimal instructing. If any of this happens and becomes a sanctioned league, the adults will probably have to go through the RVP program.
Committee Work Discussion
Audit Committee – Audit scheduled for January 17 at 3:00pm after By Laws and Policy Procedure Committee meeting.
Awards Committee – Harry Frisbee reports we are out of the 600. So, we will not be issuing anymore of those emblems. We still be issuing 225, 250 , 270 and 650 emblems for local and still 700.
Morris Ouzts questioned if the 700 plaque if it has games listed and series listed. It used to have the games listed and we would like it to continue to have. Price has gone up from $45.00, but maybe we can look into a smaller plaque or Morris Ouzts suggested checking out business in Quincy. Discussion about getting new 200 and 600 local emblems ordered with new Tallahassee USBC Association information. Harry Frisbee has a contact out of N. Carolina we can check with. Motion made to get more 200 and 600 emblems, seconded and approved.
By Laws and Policy Procedure Committee – Will try to meet right after meeting with Capital Lanes management.
Youth Committee – nothing to report.
Website Committee – Traci Cirioni still hasn’t heard back for Verdigre on issues.
Hall of Fame Committee – Ed Palagyi reports that no one has been submitted yet. There are 3 categories. Acheivement, Sponsor and Meritorious. Sponsor and Meritorious they have to be active in Tallahassee bowling for 10 years. Acheivement is 6 years. Two people were discussed.
Lane Inspection Committee- Capital Lanes and Seminole Bowl are both fully certified. Crenshaw was re-inspected, but had a couple of discrepancies that must be fixed before being certified.
Tournament Committee – Discussion for the Susan G. Komen Breast Tournament. We cannot hold it at Capital Lanes until after April 12. Frank Pepp is a marketing person now at Seminole Bowl and there is great improvement at that center now. There was a motion made to hold the tournament on February 21 and 22 at Seminole Bowl. Motion seconded and approved. Time was decided to be 1:00 pm and 4:00pm.
Fees would be per bowler - $9.00 lineage, $9.00 prize fund, and $2.00 expense fee, having the expense fee donated to Susan G. Komen Fund. Ten-pin rule will be waived.
Discussion for the 52nd Annual City Tournament. Since management at Capital Lanes is not welcoming us until after April 12, we may be able get them to allow us to have team at Capital Lanes and singles/doubles at Seminole Bowl. The dates would be March 21, 22 and March 28, 29. Prices quoted us for lineage would be $9.00 at Seminole Bowl and $12.00 at Capital Lanes. There is a meeting scheduled with Capital Lanes management, so we will try to negotiate since we are having Susan G Komen at Seminole maybe they will allow us to have Team Event for City Tournament in March.
Bruce Meyers brought up the jackets that Capital Lanes offered to the Bowler of the Year. We did finally receive from Capital Lanes. Some opinions, we need to let our association get jackets. Even though it was appreciated that Capital Lanes offered to get the jackets, they were windbreakers that came in with Sunbelt Recreation Center logo and the bowler of the year names. The sizes came in wrong and there were issues that they were not ordered as expected. We have since taken them to G. Willie’s for further embroidery of Bowler of the Year on back.
Old Business
Laptop selection/purchase – Traci Cirioni has also checked at COSTCO and leaning toward HP, since there is a built in number key pad. Should make sure it has a Vista Home Premium or Office Premium. Traci Cirioni has personal copy of Microsoft Office 2007 version to be able load on new laptop. A new laptop should have sufficient memory of 1560 mb, if possible.
New Business
We have the 2 new $4,000.00 CD’s purchased at Sunshine Savings Bank at 4.3502%.
John Govans suggests we still need to market younger bowlers because the medium age of bowlers is increasing. Clayton Bailey also suggested for our City Tournament to get celebrity or local official to throw out a ball or be there. All these efforts are to encourage bowling in Tallahassee.
Bowler’s Roundtable
Darlene Hawkins has made arrangements with Promotional Printing to do collecting pins for ladies to purchase to take and exchange at tournaments. We would also sell at our tournaments and other options for fundraising.
Meeting Adjourned
